Getting started with Smartphone Mobile HotSpot.

Setting up your Smartphone Mobile HotSpot is easy and it’s included with postpaid Simple Choice and Classic unlimited talk, text and web plans. Get started by choosing your operating system below and following the steps.

  Android Phones 

Set up -  To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps.  Some steps may be slightly different, depending on your phone model.  On most T-Mobile Android phones clicking the Mobile HotSpot icon on the home screen or app tray will allow you to skip steps 1 through 4.

  1. From any Home screen, tap the  Menu  key.
  2. Tap  Settings .
  3. Tap  Tethering and Networks or  Wireless and Networks.
  4. Tap  Mobile HotSpot .
  5. Tap  Configure Mobile HotSpot or Set Up Wi-Fi HotSpot.
    Note : On some phones you may need to tap  Show advanced options  to show all the setting options.
  6. Tap the Network SSID field to enter a new network name, if desired.
  7. Tap  the  Security drop-down menu and select desired option.  WPA2 is recommended due to increased data security and prevents unauthorized use of your data plan.
  8. For any security level but Open, tap the Password field to enter a password of at least 8 characters.
  9. Tap Save.  

Turn on / off mobile hotspot -  To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, first click the Mobile HotSpot icon on your phone’s home screen or app trap or follow steps 1 to 4 above.

  1. To turn on, tap the Mobile HotSpot check box.  After 30 seconds on your Wi-Fi device search for and connect to the Network SSID with the password configured.
  2. To turn off, tap to uncheck the Mobile HotSpot checkbox.
    Note : If you are turning on the HotSpot for the first time, you must create a password before using the Mobile HotSpot. When you turn on the HotSpot, you will be prompted to create a Wi-Fi password. When the pop-up window appears, tap the  Password  field and enter the password (passwords must be at least eight characters) and then tap  Save .

 

  iPhone   

Set up mobile hotspot (labeled as Personal HotSpot on the iPhone) To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps. Some steps may be slightly different, depending on your phone model.  The below steps are for iOS 7.

  1. Tap  Settings .
  2. Tap   Cellular.
  3. Scroll to and tap Set Up Personal Hotspot.  This will initiate a request to enable the setting on the device.
  4. Tap   Settings to back one screen.
  5. Scroll up and tap Personal HotSpot.
  6. Enter a Wi-Fi password.
Turn on/off mobile hotspot – To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap   Settings .
  2. Tap   Personal Hotspot.
  3. Slide the Personal Hotspot toggle to the right until it turns green to turn the HotSpot on.
  4. After 30 seconds on your Wi-Fi device search look for your iPhone’s name as the Wi-Fi network name.
  5. Sliding the toggle to the left turns off the hotspot.

  Windows Phones  

Set up -  To set up or configure a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps. Some steps may be slightly different, depending on your model.

  1. From the Start screen, touch the screen and slide left.
  2. Scroll down to and tap  Settings .
  3. Tap  internet sharing .
  4. Tap the  Sharing  switch to turn on internet sharing.
  5. Tap  setup .
  6. Enter the broadcast name.
  7. Enter the password.
  8. Tap the  Check mark  icon.

Turn on/off mobile hotspot -  To turn on or turn off a mobile hotspot over Wi-Fi, follow these steps:

  1. From the Start screen, touch the screen and slide left.
  2. Scroll down to and tap  Settings .
  3. Tap  internet sharing .
  4. Tap the  Sharing  switch to turn on or turn off Internet sharing.
